Captain VanderKooi began his law enforcement career with the Grand Rapids Police Department in 1980.  He has served as the commander for the Southeast Service Area since the Service Area's inception in 1999. The Southeast Service Area consists of 8 police beats. Personnel includes 4 Sergeants, 40 Patrol Officers, and 3 Community Officers.

Lieutenant Reilly serves as the Administrative Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Vincent Reilly began his law enforcement career in 1991, when he served as a parking enforcement officer for the Michigan State University Department of Public Safety. He holds two degrees from Michigan State University, a bachelor of arts in Criminal Justice and a master’s in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Law Enforcement. Lieutenant Reilly was hired by the Grand Rapids Police Department in January 1994 and served as a police officer assigned to second shift patrol. Lieutenant Reilly’s assignment to the Neighborhood Patrol Unit (NPU) in 1995 led him to become a member of the Sniper Team. During his tenure as Sergeant, beginning in 1998, he served on all three of the patrol shifts. With being named as Acting Lieutenant in January 2005, Lieutenant Reilly was assigned as the night shift Watch Commander. Prior to this current assignment, Lieutenant Reilly has spent his entire career with the department working on the southeast side of Grand Rapids. Additionally, Lieutenant Reilly has served as a Field Training Officer and a Defensive Tactics Instructor. He has received numerous letters of commendation, a Unit Performance Award as a member of the NPU in 1995, and a Meritorious Unit Citation as a member of the Training Unit in 2000.
