Wi-Fi Plan Moves Forward in GR

Nine firms responded last week with bids to carry out Mayor George Heartwell's plan to blanket the 45 square miles of Grand Rapids with a wireless Internet signal.

These firms include: ADC.net, AT&T-IBM, Broadbreeze Communications, Clearwire, Earthlink Municipal Networks, NeoReach Inc., NetApex, RITE Brain Consulting, and Pronto Networks.

City officials will select finalists May 30, making their recommendation in mid-July.
